Why Choose Maykestag?
Maykestag develops and manufactures professional cutting tools with a strong focus on tool geometry, material technology and reliable machining performance. The Speeddrill 4.0 generation combines modern solid-carbide technology with carefully developed cutting geometries and advanced coatings to provide high productivity while maintaining accuracy and tool life.
The Code 6897 Speeddrill 4.0-Inox series is engineered around the requirements of stainless-steel drilling. Its four guide chamfers help stabilise the drill and improve hole roundness, while internal coolant delivery assists with heat control and chip evacuation. Together with NANODUR coating and the specialised INOX cutting geometry, this provides a high-performance drilling solution for professional production environments.
Engineered for Stainless-Steel Drilling
Stainless steels can generate considerable heat at the cutting edge and may work-harden when machining conditions are not correctly controlled. The Speeddrill 4.0-Inox combines a specialised cutting geometry, smooth coated surfaces, internal coolant supply and rigid solid-carbide construction to support efficient chip formation and heat removal. The four guide chamfers provide additional support as the drill travels through the workpiece, helping maintain alignment and hole quality throughout the drilling cycle.

Recommended Applications
The Maykestag Code 6897 range is rated by Maykestag according to its suitability for different material groups. A higher rating indicates greater suitability for the application.
Blue ring classification
The blue identification ring marks this drill as part of Maykestag&s Speeddrill INOX family. These tools are specifically developed around the requirements of stainless-steel machining, with optimised carbide, cutting geometry and coating technology designed to handle the heat, wear and chip-control challenges associated with stainless steels and other demanding materials.
What is NANODUR coating?
NANODUR is Maykestag&s specialised single-layer, dark-grey high-performance coating developed particularly for drilling stainless steels. Its advanced layer composition and fine structure provide high resistance to abrasive wear while the smooth surface helps reduce material adhesion and built-up edge formation. This supports dependable cutting performance and extended tool life in demanding INOX applications.
Understanding the 5xD designation
The 5xD designation indicates that the drill is designed for drilling depths of approximately five times its cutting diameter. For this 3.25mm drill, the designation corresponds to a nominal drilling capability of approximately 16.25mm, while the actual flute and cutting length of the tool is 28mm. Correct cutting data, coolant pressure and chip evacuation remain important when drilling to greater depths.
Four guide chamfers
The Speeddrill 4.0 uses four guide chamfers around the drill body. These additional guiding surfaces help stabilise the drill inside the hole and support excellent hole roundness, accurate guidance and consistent drilling performance, particularly when operating at high-performance cutting parameters.
