At a Glance: Professional Granat P60 abrasive sheets measuring 115 x 228 mm with Festool StickFix attachment, supplied in a 50-piece pack for RS 200, RS 2, RS 100, RS 100 C, RS 1, RS 1 C and HSK-A 115 x 226.
Power through demanding preparation work with the Festool STF 115x228 P60 GR/50 Granat abrasive sheets. Granat is Festool&s versatile professional abrasive developed especially for challenging VOC varnishes, modern paint systems and hard substrates. Its special coating helps prevent premature clogging by sanding residue, allowing the abrasive grain to remain active for longer and helping deliver dependable cutting performance throughout the useful life of each sheet. With its P60 grit, this version provides strong material removal for coarse sanding, levelling and initial surface preparation while producing a more controlled sanding pattern than extremely coarse grades. Granat is also suitable for repair compounds, fillers, plastics, acrylic and mineral materials, making it an exceptionally useful abrasive across painting, varnishing, drywall and joinery applications. Each sheet measures 115 x 228 mm and features Festool&s convenient StickFix hook-and-loop attachment for quick positioning and replacement. Supplied in a practical pack of 50 abrasive sheets, FES498945 is designed for compatible Festool RS-series sanders and the HSK-A 115 x 226 hand-sanding block.
Festool Granat is engineered for demanding materials that can quickly clog conventional abrasive paper. Its special coating helps resist the accumulation of sanding residue around the abrasive grain, maintaining effective cutting performance for longer. Particularly well suited to VOC varnishes and hard base layers, Granat also offers excellent versatility across fillers, repair compounds, plastics, acrylic and mineral materials.

What makes Granat different?
Modern varnishes, clear coats, paints and fillers can generate sanding residue that quickly fills the spaces surrounding conventional abrasive grains. Once the abrasive becomes clogged, effective cutting performance falls. Granat uses a special coating designed to help prevent this premature loading, allowing more of the abrasive surface to remain active and helping provide a long, productive working life.
What does P60 mean?
P60 identifies a coarse abrasive grit designed for substantial material removal. It provides strong cutting action for initial surface preparation, coating preparation and levelling before the work progresses through finer abrasive grades.
When should P60 be used?
P60 is a useful starting or early-stage grit where significant surface correction is required but the extreme aggressiveness of a very coarse grit is unnecessary. Once the major surface irregularities have been removed, the sanding sequence can continue with P80, P100, P120 or another appropriate finer grit depending on the material and finish required.
Why use a progressive sanding sequence?
Every abrasive grit leaves a characteristic scratch pattern. Moving progressively through appropriate grit sizes allows each finer abrasive to remove the scratches produced by the preceding sanding stage. This is generally faster and more effective than attempting to remove deep coarse scratches with an abrasive that is too fine.
Festool StickFix
StickFix is Festool&s hook-and-loop abrasive attachment system. The abrasive sheet is pressed directly onto the compatible sanding pad or sanding block and remains securely positioned during use. When the abrasive becomes worn or another grit is required, it can be peeled away and replaced quickly without clamps or separate adhesive.
115 x 228 mm format
The larger rectangular 115 x 228 mm format provides a generous sanding area for compatible Festool orbital sanders. It is particularly useful when working across larger flat surfaces where efficient coverage and consistent levelling are important.
Machine or hand sanding
In addition to compatible Festool RS-series orbital sanders, this abrasive is listed for the HSK-A 115 x 226 hand-sanding block. This gives the user the flexibility to perform powered sanding over larger surfaces and controlled manual sanding where greater feel or access is required.
Made for demanding professional applications
Granat is especially useful for painters, varnishers, drywall professionals and joiners because of the broad range of materials it can process. From modern paint and clear-coat systems to fillers, plastics, acrylic and mineral surfaces, Granat provides one highly versatile abrasive family for numerous professional preparation tasks.
Pro Tips
- Choose P60 where substantial material removal and levelling are required before intermediate sanding begins.
- After P60, progress through suitable grits such as P80, P100 or P120 rather than making excessively large jumps in abrasive grade.
- Align the abrasive carefully so the full 115 x 228 mm sheet is properly supported by the sanding pad or hand block.
- Use effective dust extraction with compatible power sanders wherever possible to improve visibility, working conditions and abrasive performance.
- Allow the abrasive grain and machine action to perform the cutting instead of applying excessive sanding pressure.
- When hand sanding with the HSK-A, use long, controlled strokes and keep the sanding block flat to avoid introducing localised low spots.
- Replace the abrasive once cutting efficiency noticeably decreases rather than increasing pressure to compensate for a worn sheet.
- Remove loose sanding dust before moving to a finer grit so coarse particles do not contaminate the next sanding stage.
How to Use
- Switch off the power sander and disconnect it from the electrical supply before fitting the abrasive sheet.
- Inspect the sanding pad or hand-sanding block and ensure the StickFix surface is clean and in good condition.
- Select one STF 115x228 P60 Granat abrasive sheet from the pack.
- Align the abrasive accurately with the compatible sanding pad or HSK-A hand-sanding block and press it firmly onto the StickFix surface.
- When machine sanding, connect suitable dust extraction where applicable.
- Place the sander or sanding block flat against the workpiece.
- Sand using smooth, controlled and overlapping movements to achieve even material removal.
- Apply moderate pressure and allow the P60 abrasive to perform the cutting rather than forcing it into the workpiece.
- Inspect the surface regularly to ensure the required amount of material is being removed evenly.
- Once the P60 preparation stage is complete, remove residual sanding dust before progressing to an appropriate finer Granat abrasive.
Safety
- Wear appropriate eye, hearing and respiratory protection according to the material and coating being sanded.
- Use suitable dust extraction whenever possible when machine sanding, particularly when processing coatings, fillers, plastics, mineral materials or other dust-producing surfaces.
- Before sanding existing paints or coatings, determine whether they may contain hazardous substances and follow the appropriate occupational safety requirements.
- Do not sand asbestos-containing or similarly hazardous materials unless the work is performed by appropriately trained personnel using the required equipment and procedures.
- Ensure the abrasive sheet is correctly aligned and securely attached to the sanding pad or hand-sanding block before use.
- Replace torn, damaged or excessively worn abrasive sheets before continuing work.
- Keep hands and loose clothing clear of the sanding surface while a powered sander is operating.
- Follow all operating and safety instructions supplied with the Festool sander, dust extractor and material or coating system being processed.
