What makes Granat different?

Modern varnishes, clear coats, paints and fillers can produce very fine sanding dust that quickly collects between the grains of conventional abrasive paper. As the abrasive surface becomes loaded, effective cutting performance declines. Granat incorporates a special coating that helps reduce premature clogging, allowing more of the abrasive surface to remain active and providing dependable performance throughout its useful life.

What does P400 mean?

P400 is a very fine abrasive grit intended primarily for surface refinement and finishing preparation rather than significant stock removal. The small abrasive particles create a considerably finer scratch pattern than grades such as P180 or P240, making P400 useful where a smooth, uniform surface is required before selected finishing, coating or polishing processes.

When should P400 be used?

P400 should generally be used once coarse and intermediate surface preparation has already been completed. It is particularly useful for fine sanding of coatings and other suitable surfaces where remaining imperfections or sanding marks need to be reduced before subsequent finishing work.

Why should you avoid jumping directly to P400?

A very fine abrasive is inefficient at removing deep scratches left by coarse sanding. For best results, work progressively through suitable grit grades so each stage removes the sanding pattern created by the previous abrasive. This produces a more consistent surface while extending the useful life of the fine P400 abrasive.

P400 can be especially useful when refining suitable varnishes and clear coats because it removes very small surface imperfections while producing a controlled scratch pattern. Always follow the recommendations of the paint, varnish or coating manufacturer when determining the final abrasive grit required before applying the next coating or polishing step.
