Festool DOMINO Sipo D 10x750/28 MAU 10x750mm Dowel Rods 28-Pack
At a Glance: Pack of 28 FSC™-certified Sipo DOMINO rods, each 750 mm long, designed to be cut individually to the required dowel length for strong, rotation-proof joints including outdoor applications.
Create exceptionally strong DOMINO joints in exactly the length your project requires with the Festool DOMINO Sipo D 10x750/28 MAU. Instead of being supplied as pre-cut individual dowels, these professional 750 mm Sipo DOMINO rods can be cut to the required length, making them ideal for special joints and applications where standard DOMINO lengths are not suitable. Sipo wood is naturally resistant to insect and mould attack, making this version particularly well suited to outdoor woodworking and other applications where greater resistance to environmental exposure is required. The distinctive DOMINO profile combines the advantages of round and flat dowels: projecting guide ribs centre the dowel accurately in the mortise, while specially formed glue pockets and longitudinal grooves distribute adhesive evenly and allow excess glue to escape. Once inserted, the elongated DOMINO shape provides excellent resistance to twisting and creates an exceptionally stable joint in solid timber and suitable panel materials. Supplied as a pack of 28 FSC™-certified rods, FES498691 is compatible with the Festool DF 500, DF 500 R, DFC 500 and DOMINO XL DF 700 joining systems.
The D 10x750/28 MAU combines the mechanical strength of Festool&s unique DOMINO profile with the versatility of a 750 mm continuous rod. Simply cut each rod to the length required by the joint. The Sipo timber provides natural resistance to insects and mould, making it Festool&s preferred DOMINO material for outdoor applications, while the grooved, rotation-proof profile delivers accurate positioning and excellent glue distribution.

What is Sipo?
Sipo is the timber Festool uses for DOMINO dowels intended particularly for outdoor applications. It offers natural resistance to insects and mould attack, making it more suitable than standard beech DOMINOs where the finished joint may be exposed to outdoor conditions. The appropriate adhesive and finishing system should also be selected for the environmental conditions of the completed project.
Why are these DOMINOs supplied as 750 mm rods?
Standard Festool DOMINOs are available in predetermined lengths, but some specialist joints require dimensions outside those standard sizes. The 750 mm rod allows the user to cut a DOMINO to a specific required length, providing much greater flexibility for deep joints, unusual workpiece thicknesses and custom construction.
Why is the DOMINO shape so strong?
A DOMINO has a broad, elongated cross-section rather than the circular shape of a traditional dowel. Festool states that the cross-section of one DOMINO corresponds to approximately three round dowels of the same drilling diameter. This broad profile creates a large gluing surface and excellent resistance to rotation.
100% rotation-proof from the first DOMINO
Unlike a single round dowel, which can act as a pivot, the elongated DOMINO geometry locks the joined components against rotation. This means even the first correctly positioned DOMINO immediately provides alignment and torsional stability to the joint.
How do the guide ribs work?
The projecting ribs along the sides of the DOMINO help centre it accurately within the routed mortise. This improves alignment when the workpieces are brought together and contributes to the characteristic precision of the Festool DOMINO joining system.
Glue pockets and longitudinal grooves
The distinctive grooves in the DOMINO are functional rather than decorative. They help distribute adhesive along the joint, provide spaces where glue can collect and allow excess adhesive to escape rather than creating hydraulic pressure inside the mortise. This promotes an even, reliable glued connection.
For inside and outside
Festool offers DOMINOs in different timber materials for different environments. Beech DOMINOs are intended primarily for interior applications, while weather-resistant Sipo DOMINOs are the preferred option for outdoor work because of their natural resistance to mould and insect attack.
Responsible forest management
Festool DOMINOs carry FSC™ certification. This indicates that the timber originates from responsibly managed forests and other controlled sources, with the relevant stages of the supply chain covered by FSC certification.
Pro Tips
- Cut the 750 mm DOMINO rod cleanly and squarely to the required length so both ends seat predictably inside the mortises.
- Determine the required mortise depths before cutting the rod so the finished DOMINO does not bottom out before the workpieces close completely.
- Allow a small amount of clearance within the combined mortise depth for adhesive and assembly rather than cutting the DOMINO excessively long.
- Apply suitable adhesive to the mortise and DOMINO surfaces so the longitudinal grooves can distribute it effectively through the joint.
- For exterior work, use an adhesive and finishing system rated appropriately for the expected moisture and weather exposure; the Sipo DOMINO alone does not make the complete joint weatherproof.
- Use the tighter DOMINO mortise setting for the first positioning mortise where precise alignment is required, then use the machine&s appropriate wider setting for subsequent mortises when assembly tolerance is beneficial.
- Before producing multiple identical custom DOMINOs, cut and test one sample length first to confirm that the joint closes correctly.
How to Use
- Determine the required finished DOMINO length according to the workpiece thickness, joint design and mortise depth.
- Mark the required length accurately on the 750 mm Sipo DOMINO rod.
- Cut the rod squarely and cleanly to produce the individual DOMINO dowel.
- Mark the joining positions accurately on both workpieces.
- Fit the correct 10 mm DOMINO cutter to the compatible joining machine and configure the required mortise depth and width.
- Machine the first mortise accurately to establish the alignment of the joint.
- Machine the corresponding mortise and any additional DOMINO positions required by the joint design.
- Dry-fit the components where appropriate to confirm that the custom-length DOMINO seats correctly and that the workpieces close completely.
- Apply a suitable adhesive to the mortises and DOMINO according to the adhesive manufacturer&s recommendations.
- Insert the Sipo DOMINO and bring the workpieces together, ensuring that they align correctly and sit flush.
- Clamp the assembly appropriately and allow the adhesive to cure fully before loading or machining the completed joint.
Safety
- Disconnect the DOMINO joining machine from its power supply or remove the battery before fitting or changing cutters.
- Wear appropriate eye, hearing and respiratory protection when machining DOMINO mortises or cutting the Sipo rods to length.
- Secure the workpiece properly before routing a DOMINO mortise.
- Keep hands clear of the cutter and machine opening during operation.
- Use the correct Festool cutter diameter, mortise depth and machine settings for the joint being produced.
- When cutting the 750 mm rods to length, secure the material appropriately and use a suitable cutting method.
- For outdoor applications, use an adhesive suitable for the expected environmental exposure and follow the adhesive manufacturer&s instructions.
- Follow all operating and safety instructions supplied with the Festool DOMINO joining machine and other tools used during the jointing process.
